Delta ME300 vs MS300: Which Drive Should You Choose?

Delta ME300 compact variable speed drive

Choosing between Delta ME300 and MS300 drives starts with what the motor needs to do. A pump maintaining pressure, a fan adjusting airflow and a conveyor starting under load can have different requirements, even when their motor kilowatt ratings match.

Both families offer compact AC motor control. The useful question is whether the selected model provides the current capacity, control functions and interfaces your application needs.

The Main Differences

Requirement ME300 MS300
Motor control V/F and sensorless vector control V/F, sensorless vector and sensorless FOC control
Programmable logic Application functions and parameter-based control Built-in PLC with 2,000 steps for suitable logic tasks
Communication Integrated Modbus communication Integrated Modbus plus optional network cards; confirm compatibility
Practical buying focus General speed-control requirements Additional control, programming or network requirements

This is a family-level comparison. Confirm the exact order code, firmware, voltage class and available options before ordering.

When the ME300 May Suit Your Application

Consider the ME300 for straightforward speed control where its available inputs, outputs and application functions meet the requirement. Begin with a description of normal operation: how the motor starts, how speed is requested and what should stop it.

Do not assume every pump or conveyor needs the same drive. A continuously running fan and a heavily loaded conveyor can require very different starting and overload performance.

When to Consider the MS300

The MS300 is worth considering when stronger low-speed control, programmable sequences or an optional industrial network interface is needed. Its built-in logic may reduce the need for a separate controller on a small application, provided the available I/O and programming capabilities are sufficient.

A larger system coordinating several drives, instruments and operator screens may still need a separate PLC. List the required signals and sequence before deciding which device will control the machine.

Size the Model, Not Just the Series

Check supply voltage and phase, motor nameplate current, required overload duty and operating conditions. Assess enclosure temperature, ventilation, installation altitude and motor cable length. Our VSD sizing guide explains why matching kW alone is insufficient.

For a replacement, compare mounting dimensions, terminals, braking arrangements, communication options and parameter requirements. Treat a change between series as a compatibility assessment rather than assuming it is a direct swap.

A Practical Planning Checklist

  • A clear motor nameplate photograph and existing drive model, if applicable.
  • Available supply voltage and phase.
  • The machine or pump application, including loaded starts and operating speed range.
  • Required control signals, PLC details and communication protocol.
  • Installation environment, motor cable length and quantity.
